In 2009 after a 12 year career in industrial design, I took a decisive step and changed my creative focus towards my first love; illustration. Since then I have been producing work for publishers and self-publishers alike in the children’s picture and middle grade book markets. I have self-published my own graphic novel, produced a solo illustration exhibition providing an alternate visual identity to Homer’s Odyssey and I have steadily been taking part in numerous Comic conventions selling my artwork, my books and meeting wonderful people. I have also supplied illustration work for game and digital application publishers as well as merchandizing companies. Recently, I have begun writing my own narratives, one of which, was published as a comic book in 2016.
My love for illustration comes from my passion of visually decoding the written word. I can produce high caliber images characterized by excellent draftsmanship, composition, design and colour. Although my preferred painting medium is oils, I work equally well with all other traditional mediums like acrylics, graphite, watercolours and pastels. I am also very well versed in digital mediums. Every one of my ideas starts with a single line in pencil in one of the numerous sketchbooks I keep with me at all times. It is then finalized and ultimately transferred on thick paper, illustration board or the computer screen.
My influences come from the ‘Golden Age’ illustrators such as Howard Pyle, N.C. Wyeth and Maxfield Parrish. I often spend nights obsessing over their impeccable compositions and colour choices. Greek Mythology and fantasy works by C.S. Lewis, Rudyard Kipling and their contemporaries have also constantly fed my imagination. Additionally, I have a keen interest for open ended mystery stories, history, alternative history narratives and 1980’s science fiction.
I live in Athens, Greece with my wife and two children.

Stathis is one of the most talented illustrators. ‘Be the Penguin’, the project we collaborated on, was very demanding with a tight time frame. Stathis not only came through as very professional with exquisite work, but also won my admiration with his great personality and I can now call him my friend.

I highly recommend Stathis Petropoulos. We hired him to illustrate the front page of the website we are building. He was prompt, responsive to all our needs, and is a wonderful and highly skilled illustrator. He easily navigates the digital world and makes a beautiful product. Again, without reservation, I highly recommend Stathis.

Stathis is a wonderfully talented artist with a design background that helps him meet client needs and hit a brief spot on. I have worked with Stathis on two apps, each with very different briefs. In the first project, we had a very specific idea of what we wanted. Stathis worked with us to match our needs in his own beautiful style. The second brief was more of a blank canvas and required Stathis to come up with the complete look and feel, we were so happy with the illustrations. Stathis has a unique eye and produces stunning, vibrant and wonderfully human work. He does all this with no fuss and meets deadlines with great communication and efficiency.
