October 2024
Warm sunlight washes over one of the many Athenian neoclassical structures still standing proud today. A window has been opened so that the feeling of calm and warmth can fill the interior and sooth the soul.
The location in this painting is not real. It is the result of memories of many urban scenes I have come upon during my city walks.
I have always been visually attracted to strong contrasts of light. In this painting I chose to express my passion for high contast conditions with the looming but departing dark stormy skies and the building in the foreground lit by the sun shinning through those dark clouds.
To me, this feeling of calm after a storm, signals new beginnings, healing wounds and planning for a brighter future. This is something I hope we all get to do soon when all this craziness in the world finally subsides.
